In FFXIV:ARR, players can play as all of the many classes and jobs on the same character. From hard mode encounters with iconic Final Fantasy bosses like Ifrit and Garuda to facing down the Demon Wall, the endgame of FFXIV:ARR has plenty of challenges for a MMORPG player looking for battle. Skill and ability rotations become increasingly complex as characters grow in power and fights become chaotic and intense. While solo combat is largely straightforward and less than exciting, group encounters such as dungeons and trials offer players intense combat options that require significant concentration and undivided attention. The “global cooldown” in FFXIV:ARR is rather high by MMORPG standards, but as players get further into the game and into more difficult encounters, they’ll find that there are more than enough things to keep busy during fights. Players select targets, use various abilities on them assigned to a hotbar, rinse and repeat until combat is over. While there are some stat-based decisions to be made during this process, there’s nothing make or break involved so even the min-max crowd will be able to enjoy playing to their aesthetic preferences.Ĭombat is classic “tab-target” MMORPG fare. Because of this, I'd recommend this game not only for lovers of community/MMO aspects of the genre, but lovers of Role-playing games in general.Character creation is an in-depth customization process that can take hours upon hours for a fastidious player. It's like an old friend that's always there waiting for you when you need them. On the contrary, it's the only MMO that completely respects the player's time and gives back proportionally what you put into it, without pressure, without FOMO. In this way, this is not an MMO that makes you anxious if you don't play for a bit. I take breaks, I come back and get sucked in all over again. Its atmosphere is special and there is no pressure to always keep the subscription active. These things are what separate Final Fantasy from other MMOs. I even played music in town (impromptu Bard concert) for onlookers. But what really made me come back over and over again is the socialization, events, in-game clubs and venues, friendly community, etc. Once I got past the boredom of early level combat, battles and dungeons became more complex and strategic. Something about this game just makes me drawn to it. Outside of prime Warcraft, non have felt like "Home" until I played FF14. I played Age of Conan, Aion and other obscure MMOs and of course I played all the major ones as well. I've played MMOs since Ultima Online in the 90s, Korean MMOs long before Black Desert, and all the classics like DAoC before WoW took over the genre. I actually have over 600 hours on a non-steam account on this game. Did Squenix decide to stop funding their server security? Get your S*** together because no one wants to sit in queues because you decided to ignore funding your servers properly. But now it's getting ridiculous with server disconnects over the weekend. I get that there are issues from time to time.
